Back to the birds. Some years ago a dear friend of mine was in trouble. This was the fellow who “hooked” me on raising exotic birds. Anyway, he got sick, really sick, fatally sick. He was so sick that neither he nor his wife could take care of their flock of birds. None of the clubs he belonged to knew of his difficulties, none of his family knew, he and his wife told no one until one day my wife and I got a phone call. With no fan fare we loaded up what we needed into the truck and drove up to work. Once the cleaning was done and everyone got fed we started working with them to find homes for their birds….. This is what decent people do, no fan fare we just do it!
These days on line I see big stories about animal control raiding and confiscating animals from rescues, breeders and other less than good situations. Not many of these folks are totally isolated, not many live in a vacuum. Feed suppliers, peers, club members, family members and neighbors someone had to know what was going on “before” the fateful day. But how many rolled up their sleeves and got to work doing what should be done? WE NEED TO, we need to be dang sure we are watching over our friends, peers and neighbors. WE NEED TO, be willing to gather folks when needed to help each other deal with bad situations. WE NEED TO, be willing to ask for help before the problem becomes a problem.
