The Season

Just wanted to preach a little bit here. With all the foolish stuff happening in the world related to who is raising our food stuffs, I want to harp on a favorite subject of mine: home gardening. Folks we are in the middle of “the season”, gardening season. We are harvesting peas, beets, carrots, greens of all sorts, seeing the beans growing-from purple to yellow and the old standby green, early taters are starting to develop and frankly I can not understand the reason for folks buying crap that has to be washed with poison to kill the poison.

Now I understand I have been blessed with more land than I can ever use, but girls and boys there are many ways even apartment dwellers can garden.

Containers, in between the flowerbeds, in small patches, shoot plant veggies anywhere and every where there is no excuse for feeding treated crap to your birds or yourself at this time of year.

No it is not to late, carrots, beets many root veggies can be planted this late in the year. Squashes, while late will still produce a fine fall crop (and as much as I hate most squashes, I make the birds eat um). Most of the greens can be planted and replanted through out the summer, chard, broccoli rob (sp-Asian), bok-choy, and God only knows what else.. And to top it all off it is good for the fat old humans to get off the couch and dig in the dirt.

Safeway is nice, farmers marketsĀ are cool but Bob’s back patch is just plain bitchen!
