Wisdom from Bob’s Bird Barn

Morning is a nice time in Bob’s Bird Barn.  The birds are eager to interact and are most pleased with their morning treats.  Today we have larger, woody, humans do not like, sugar snap peas with real peas in side, big peas, wondrous tasty finger foods.   Oh the joy.  The chatter stops as all attention is given to these simple treats.

Saturday is clean up day so the barn smells of fresh white shavings on Sunday morning.  Here and there we see fresh torn phonebook pages on the floors and a bit of chewed apple branches.  Most of the Amazon hens are setting eggs, not many are fertile, but we have hope eternal, they are so devoted.

The Mealie pair are still giving me the stinky eye.  They had four eggs, blanks all.  I pulled them yesterday and removed the nest box, moved them from the little cage they came in (she went to nest before I could change them up) into a larger six foot flight, more perches, more toys, more stuff to check out.  It seemed to meet the male’s expectations but she was hesitant-not today, she chortled out her good morning as all Mealies should.

Moving a bit slower by the Orange Wing pair as she jumps off the nest everytime she hears and intruder,  the Red Lores could care less but they will come a running if they hear the feed bowls clattering.  Mom and Dad our Blue Fronts are the only sure thing in the Amazon rooms she is setting tight on four bright white orbs.  She is later this year as we left her late clutch with them last season and it threw her off a bit.

Tasha gives me her come hither look and of course she gets a head scratch (a widow she has decided that I would make a good replacement, literally) Raggityman eye balls me seeking his almond plotting the removal of a finger or two.  All is well as I leave the Amazon room to the gentle call of the Double Yellow Head-Blondie, “hello big girl”.  Humm?
